Introduction to Sketching

Objective:

• Understand the basics of sketching, including materials and techniques.

Activities:

• Introduction: Overview of sketching tools (pencils, erasers, paper) and materials.

• Basic Techniques: Introduction to basic sketching techniques (line drawing, contour drawing, gesture drawing).

• Warm-Up Exercises: Simple line exercises to loosen up and gain control.

• Shape and Form: Practicing basic shapes (circles, squares, triangles) and turning them into 3D forms (cylinders, cubes, spheres).

• Homework: Practice drawing basic shapes and forms.

Materials Needed:

• Sketch pads

• Pencils (HB, 2B, 4B)

• Erasers

• Reference images

Proportions and Perspective

Objective:

• Learn about proportions and perspective to create realistic sketches.

 

 

Activities:

• Warm-Up: Quick sketching exercises focusing on accuracy.

• Proportions: Introduction to human proportions and techniques for maintaining correct proportions in drawing.

• Perspective: Basics of one-point and two-point perspective drawing.

• Practice Session: Drawing simple objects using proper proportions and perspective.

• Homework: Practice perspective drawings and proportion studies.

Materials Needed:

• Rulers

• Perspective grid templates

• Proportion guides

Introduction to Shading Techniques

Objective:

• Learn basic shading techniques to add depth and dimension.

Activities:

• Warm-Up: Sketching basic shapes with light shading.

• Shading Techniques: Introduction to hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, and blending.

• Light and Shadow: Understanding light sources, highlights, midtones, and shadows.

• Practice Session: Shading basic forms (spheres, cylinders, cubes) to understand light and shadow.

• Homework: Practice shading techniques on basic forms.

 

Materials Needed:

• Shading pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B)

• Blending stumps or tissues

• Light source (lamp or flashlight)

Texture and Detail

Objective:

• Learn to add texture and detail to sketches to create more realistic drawings.

Activities:

• Warm-Up: Quick sketching and shading exercises.

• Texture Techniques: Introduction to techniques for drawing different textures (wood, metal, fabric, fur).

• Detail Work: Tips for adding fine details to sketches.

• Practice Session: Applying texture and detail to drawings of objects or simple scenes.

• Homework: Practice drawing textures and adding detail to a still life setup.

Materials Needed:

• Reference images of different textures

• Objects with varied textures for practice

Final Project and Presentation

Objective:

• Complete a final project incorporating all the techniques learned and present it.

 

Activities:

• Warm-Up: Light sketching and shading exercises.

• Final Project: Participants work on a final sketch that includes proper proportions, perspective, shading, texture, and detail.

• Individual Guidance: Instructors provide one-on-one feedback and guidance.

• Presentation Preparation: Final adjustments and preparation for presentation.

• Showcase: Participants present their final projects to the group, explaining their process and techniques used.

• Feedback and Certificates: Constructive feedback session and presentation of certificates of completion.
